Senior Pastor

The New Zion Baptist Church (NZBC) – Ogden, Utah, the oldest predominantly African American Baptist Church in Northern Utah was originated in 1918.  New Zion is a community church; members of the congregation are affiliated with the sister churches in Ogden and surrounding communities due to historically, New Zion was the “only” Baptist church when the African-American community in Ogden started to grow in the early 1950’s.  Currently the average Sunday service is approximately 50-60 attendants.  We serve the urban community of Ogden, Utah, and located approximately 30 miles north of Salt Lake City. The New Zion Baptist Church is currently seeking a Senior Pastor.  The Senior Pastor at NZBC will need to be a follower of Jesus Christ, well-grounded and experienced in Biblical teaching and preaching, having clear knowledge, and understanding of Biblical truth and Baptist Doctrine.  A loving relationship-oriented shepherd, embracing and living out the Biblical standards found in 1 Timothy 3: 1-7, Titus 1: 5-9 and 1 Peter 5.  Job Description The Senior Pastor’s primary responsibilities are to be a Shepherd to our congregation and ministry’s, teach and preach the word of God, conduct counseling sessions, weddings, funerals, baptism/christenings, Holy Communion and visitation of our sick and shut-in members (member homes, hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living, etc). Basic Requirements Minimum of 3 years of continuous service as a Senior Pastor or Associate Pastor. Proof of a licensed and ordained Baptist minister and five (5) years of ministerial experience including leadership, administrative, organizational, and managerial skills at a church of comparable size is preferred. Candidates must be knowledgeable of the Baptist Doctrine.  If submitting proof of college/university degrees, college/university they must be from an accredited school. Compensation and Work Hours This position will be paid $18,000 per year with two weeks paid vacation. The candidate will be able to seek employment to meet any financial needs not provided by the church.  A minimum of twenty (20) hours per week in the church office (24 hours on call).

Job Description The Senior Pastor’s primary responsibilities including but not limited to:
  • Be a Shepherd to our congregation
  • Preach and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ
  • Preside over worship services, funeral services, weddings, Baptisms ordinances/christenings and Holy Communion. Represent the church in convention, congress and community forums as necessary (able to delegate ordained ministry to perform these functions in his/her absence).
  • Lead and oversee biblically based counseling (family, marital, substance abuse, addictions, etc.)
  • Visitation of our sick and shut-in members in their homes, hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living, etc. (able to delegate appropriate assistance)
  • Be open to new ideas. Listen to and seek input from the members, inviting diverse perspectives and encouraging open and godly communication, in order to seek God’s will for the church.
  • Have a commitment to Christian Education, attend, support, and encourage members to participate in IGBC (local/state convention) meetings and events, and Congress of Christian Education.
  • Oversee, guide and educate all church ministries to include 1-3-year plans. Establish new ministries. Assure that leaders have the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to accomplish their ministry work.
  • Assist church officials in carrying out the Church by-laws, policies and procedures, including
  • established covenant agreements.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of all Church ministries, auxiliaries, and committees.
  • Demonstrate financial awareness and responsibility.
  • A Willingness to have a pulpit susceptible to males and females.

Administrating and management of programs in order to direct, oversee, and assist ministry leaders in planning, managing and organizing programs.
